The Oaxaca Old Fashioned is a tasty riff on the tried and true classic Old Fashioned. It uses mellow reposado tequila as the base alongside the assertive and smoky qualities of mezcal . It's sweetened with agave nectar and and also contains mole bitters which furthers the drink's character considerably. The result is a complex and agreeable set of flavors. It opens up with orange oil from the twist and smoke from the mezcal which ties into the tequila seamlessly. The agave nectar maintains the theme established by the tequila and mezcal while softening things up just a bit. The presence of the mole bitters though is key. They don't dominate but their spicy cinnamon and chocolate flavor pleasantly underscores the whole drink.
